15 Million Tourists Had Visited Golden Sands in 50 Years

In 1957 Golden Sands summer resorts (North from Varna, North - Eastern Bulgaria) had only 8 hotels. 50 years later there are more than 90. By now 80% from the resort's bed equipment is busy. For half a century in Golden Sands had worked more than 500,000 people and 15 million more visited the resort as tourists.

Sunny Beach resort bed capacity tops 160,000

According to unofficial data, Bulgarian Black Sea resort Sunny Beach began the summer season with a total of 164,000 beds. Current occupancy is at 60%, said Malina Stratieva, executive director of Sunny Beach AD. Scandinavian, British and German holiday-makers make up the bulk of the arrivals, as the online English edition of Dnevnik Daily reported.

Bulgaria's Bansko opens summer season

Bansko officially opened its summer season on May 26. Bansko mayor Alexander Kravarov told journalists that the resort had achieved a tourist boom in the past 20 years. Of the municipality’s 30 million leva budget, 23 million was generated through its own earnings. Kravarov said that projects to improve infrastructure, including 40 streets and 32 000 sq m of pavements, and to repair public buildings and churches were underway.

Another New Resort Village For Booming Bulgaria

The latest announcement in spending on ski resorts in Bulgaria is for a $74.4 million spend on a new “vacation village” at the Borovets ski resort. Borovets was formerly the country’s leading ski area, before the rise of Bansko, and is now investing heavily in expansion and upgrading to make up lost ground.

EU DIRECTIVE CHANGES TO HAVE POSITIVE EFFECT ON BULGARIA'S TOURISM- HUMPHREYS

Consumer protection in tourism will improve after some changes in European Timeshare Directive, head of the European Commission (EC) representation in Bulgaria, Michael Humphreys said. Timeshare Directive regulates the right to spend a period of time in a holiday property for a certain period of the year for three years or longer.
