Pasarel
The village of Dolni Passarel( Lower Passsarel ) is located on the southern slopes of Plana mountain, on the right bank of Iskar river on an altitude of 650 m above sea level. The population amounts to 1327 inhabitants (census in 2001). The village is a part of district Pancharevo, Sofia municipality. The distance to the capital through the gorge of Iskar river is about 20 km and there is a regular bus connection – city bus-line N 3.The climate is temperate continental, the soils are maroon wood and alluvial. Potatoes, flax, hops are cultivated. There are also a lot of orchards. Sheep and cattle-breeding is developed too.Dolni Passarel is 5 km northwest from the dam of Iskar dam, the biggest in the Balkans. Once upon a time there was another village Gorni Passarel ( Upper Passarel), which now lays on the bottom of the lake. Under the dam and 3 km away from the village Dolni Passarel is situated the late medieval monastery “Sveti Petar and Pavel” (Saint Peter and Paul). The buildings of the monastery and the murals date from the middle of XIX-th century. For mountaineers there is a possibility to make one-day tours to the stronghold “Urvich”, to the monasteries “Sveti Arhangel Mihail”, “Sveti Nikola”and “Sveti Spas” or to climb the highest peaks in Lozenska mountain – Popov djal(1190 m) and Plana mountain – Manastiriste(1338 m).For recreation and water sports there is no more suitable place than Iskar dam .And of course nobody would miss the beautiful restaurants and locals in Dolni Pasarel and environment. The most famous local tavern is “The golden fish” in the direction of Sofia.
